The reason the main material for this product is a thermosetting plastic rather than a thermo plastic is due to the electrial components that are required for the product to function. Had this product been manufactured from a thermo plastic it may have been deformed if any heat is is produced the the internal components. Plastic is a good choice overall for the finish of this product as is gives it a sleek smooth finish, as well as reducing the final weight of the product. The legs however are manufactured from hardwood which provide the product with extra strenght as well as providing a contrast with the colour of the speaker itself.
